Progressive firebrand Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and others on the left blasted the Christian organization behind the two ads made for the Super Bowl game on Sunday night, arguing that they promote “fascism.”

In the tweet, Ocasio-Cortez, who is also a Catholic blasted the group on Sunday night, saying “Something tells me Jesus would *not* spend millions of dollars on Super Bowl ads to make fascism look benign.”

Others on the left also echoed AOC’s rant on Twitter, criticizing the campaign for allegedly spending money. Critics also argued that it was connected to “hate” because of some of the donors behind the campaign.

“With the money the “He Gets Us” people spent on their right-wing Jesus ads, they could permanently house 1,563 people experiencing homelessness.” Sawyer Hackett lamented.

In an exclusive report published by the Daily Mail, it was revealed that “He Gets Us, a nonprofit aimed at modernizing Americans’ perceptions of Jesus Christ and Christianity, reportedly paid a hefty $20 million to run its messages during the big game.”

According to the report, “The first black-and-white clip shows migrants fleeing their homes under life-threatening circumstances, implicitly heading for the US. At the end, it’s revealed to be a comparison of today’s asylum-seekers with Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Also featuring colorless photos, the second clip shows people in scenes of heated confrontation set against Rag’n’Bone Man’s 2017 hit “Human.” It ends with the phrase: “Jesus loved the people we hate.”

In response to Ocasio-Cortez on Twitter, Outspoken Georgia conservative Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene argued that “Jesus died a horrific death on a Roman cross so that our sins can be forgiven and whoever believes in Him will have eternal life.”

“That’s proof there’s nothing Jesus wouldn’t do to show us His love. AOC needs to know Jesus,” Greene wrote on Monday morning.

The ad campaign also appeared to be non-partisan and was reportedly “funded by a cache of anonymous donors – along with the family of David Green, the billionaire owners of the Hobby Lobby store chain,” Daily Mail claimed.

While discussing the ad campaign with conservative media personality Glenn Beck in late November, Greene said that “are wanting to say – we being a lot of people – that he gets us. He understands us. He loves who we hate. I think we have to let the public know and create a movement.”
