The Chinese government is allegedly implementing cutting edge artificial intelligence that is capable of reading and monitoring the minds of dozens of Communist party officials.

Researchers in China revealed that they have developed a software that can analyze brain waves and facial expressions and monitor if individuals were attentive to “thought and political education.”

In 2019, Chinese state-backed publication Study Times released a report about the new technology and claimed that the algorithms could be used to “gauge the thought condition of party members” and make sure content can “go into the head and the heart of party members.”

“It will truly enhance a party member’s political quality and ideological thought,” the publication wrote at the time.

Since then, the Chinese government has been upscaled over the use of face recognition technology, big data, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Many have claimed that the Chinese’ actions were meant to build the world’s most complex digital dictatorship.

In a statement released by the Hefei Comprehensive National Science Centre, the high-tech development would reportedly be used to “further solidify their confidence and determination to be grateful to the party, listen to the party and follow the party.”

On July 1, a video report showing the further details about the development was published. However, it was deleted.

The clip showed the subject looking at a screen at a kiosk, scrolling through exercises promoting party policy while the kiosk reportedly noting the researcher’s expressions and pointing out their reaction to particular pieces of content.

The institute also reportedly gathered 43 party members on the research team to be monitored by the new software while participating in the lessons.

“On one hand, it can judge how party members have accepted thought and political education. On the other hand, it will provide real data for thought and political education so it can be improved and enriched.” The research article said.

Aside from the alleged new software, the Chinese government also reportedly produced a map via app on WeChat.

According to the reports, the “deadbeat map” shows a radar-style graphic identifying every laolai in the vicinity of the user.

“Tapping on a person marked on the map reveals their personal information, including their full name, court-case number and the reason they have been labelled untrustworthy. Identity-card numbers and home addresses are also partially shown,” media reports revealed.
